The Idaho Taxidermists Association is proud to announce that we will be hosting the 6th Western Regional Taxidermy Championships in 2008. It will be held at the Doubletree Riverside in Boise, Idaho on June 5th through June 7th, 2008.

The Western Regional Taxidermy Championships only comes around once every two years. We have fabulous seminars, great judges, and super prizes planned for this event. It will be the taxidermy event of the year! Don’t miss it!

SEMINARS


Steve Faechner, president of the Academy of Realistic Taxidermy, will demonstrate how to cast fish heads. If you can’t get to Montana for the class, don’t miss out when the class comes to Boise!

Multiple award winner Rick Krane is nationally known for his fish – and will be painting a small-mouth bass for us! You won’t want to miss the techniques that make all the difference!

Mike Gillis, currently in the research and development department at McKenzie Taxidermy Supply, has been a full time taxidermist and instructor for many years. He has written numerous articles for Taxidermy Today and Breakthrough. Mike will share his techniques for mounting a gamehead - don’t miss the chance to pick his brain!

Randy Life is a well known seminar instructor at the state and national level and has just developed a new easy mount pheasant system for Jonas Supply Company. He will be mounting a pheasant in his first seminar and constructing a habitat base in his second seminar. Randy is known for his detailed seminars – don’t miss out!

Idaho’s own Bob Ulshafer will share his shoulder-mount magic with us. Bob has been an award winning taxidermist and respected judge for many years. He specializes in sheep & mountain goats … come & see what makes his work special!

Multiple Best in World winner Ken Walker will be mounting a life-size grizzly bear with Shawn Dawson in a two-day, hands-on seminar sponsored by the United Taxidermists Association for the "Be Bear Aware Program" in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America.

Tom Weickum is the antelope master. He’ll mount an antelope and share tips on making your shoulder mounts look amazing!

Harry Whitehead, 2007 Taxidermist of the Year winner with a gorgeous ocellated turkey, will share a presentation on turkey anatomy. The things you will learn in this seminar will make ALL your bird mounts better.

Best in the West Best in Show - $1200 cash prize and trophy for Judge’s Choice Best of Show
Best in the West Best of Category – all Best of Category winners in Open and Masters receive $100 cash and trophy
Jim Hall Award of Merit - $100 cash for the mount that best depicts Man’s interaction with our wildlife resources
Competitors Award - $200 cash for the highest combined score for any 4 mounts entered in any category or combination of categories in Open or Masters. Mounts must be designated at time of check-in.
Sunrise Award – trophy for highest scoring mount by competitor under 16 years old
Taxidermist Challenge - Here’s your chance to show everyone what you can do! This year’s challenge (chosen by the last winner, Chris Krueger) is a javelina. Prove your skill with this mount! Winner receives trophy and cash (amount determined by number of entries)
Research Best Novice Youth Award - $100 gift certificate to best novice mount by competitor under 16 years old
Research Best Novice Adult Award - $100 gift certificate to best novice mount by adult
Best in the West Best All Around Taxidermist – trophy to highest scoring average on four mounts, one each in fish, birds, gameheads and lifesize
